Friday Notes
February 11, 2011
Edison Info
1. Thank you to all of you who have read the numerous letters and directives from the last two weeks. We appreciate those written communications in answer to our questions.
2. The ISAT testing has been postponed one week. The testing will start on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, and continue through March 17th. The Chicago Public Schools decided to push the testing back one week because of the lost days of instruction during the blizzard.
3. Report Cards: Please return the report card envelope, and sign and return the paper that was included with your child’s report card. This is our record that you received it.
4. There are two items attached regarding an educational forum about gifted students at the University of Chicago on March 6th. This is an opportunity to meet with other parents regarding the education and opportunities for your children. Lots of activities and games are available.
5. Edison has recently received a distinguished school award for consistently high test scores. We also received a thank you for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) for allowing our eighth graders to test and contribute to the “Nation’s Report Card”.
6. Have you heard about the “Word of the Day”? This week’s words were: cacophony, waning, vacillate, fortitude, and patronize. Please use these words in your daily conversation!!!
8. All articles for the February 25 edition of the Edison Bulletin Board are due next Friday, February 18. If you have an item for the next issue of the Edison Bulletin Board, please email it to edisonbulletin@gmail.com. Any articles submitted after this date may be held for the next newsletter. Thank you. 9. Happy Birthday Thomas Edison. In addition to being the day before we celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (Feb. 12th), February 11, 2011 is Thomas Edison’s 164th birthday!

11. Please note the following changes to the March and April PTO Meetings: The March PTO Meeting will be on March 15, 2011 but at 12:30 instead of 9:30 since the prospective parent open house will be held from 9-11 that day. Because of the PTO Election being held on April 6, 2011, the April PTO meeting will be on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 6:00 until 7:00. We will present our slate of candidates running for all Board positions. This meeting will be followed by a Parent Share -- more information to come!
12. Election Information: Please find attached information pertaining to running for the PTO Board. All positions are up for election including the office of President. Note that the Treasurer position is a two year position and not up for election at this time. Also attached is our need to have an Election Committee to monitor voting the day of report card pick-up. If interested in running for Office or to help us out on the Election Committee, please complete the forms and return to the PTO mailbox. If you should have any questions, please contact De Anne Glomski, PTO President or any Officers.
13. PTO Dues -- if you have not paid your PTO dues you will not be able to vote in the election or run for Office. You should have received a PTO Membership card if you have paid or you can check the membership listing in the PTO binder in the office or contact Kristie Hansen at kdbh1968@yahoo.com if you wish to confirm your membership.
